COVID-19 Update: May 17, 2020
As many communities are moving towards opening up, we are getting asked each day, “When is FieldHaven re-opening?”
There is no one-word, one-date answer. Opening all our operations – from FieldHaven Marketplace to the spay/neuter clinic – isn’t easy. Each one takes careful coordination and consideration.
Here’s a status of each of our operations and/or programs:
The shelter remains closed to the general public except for appointments, usually for adoptions.
Adoptions: We are doing adoptions by appointment. You can view all our adoptables here. Many people are looking for kittens. We do have kittens in foster, but we have such a long waiting list for kittens that they are not being posted on our website. If you want to adopt a kitten, please complete an adoption application form. Our Adoption Team will connect with you to match you with your perfect kitten – or a pair!
Intakes: All intakes remain suspended except for special situations. We have introduced a new program for owner surrenders. Meow & Forever provides resources to help you rehome your cat right from your home.
Spay/Neuter: The Hathaway Spay/Neuter Clinic is still closed but stay tuned for information coming soon.
Community/Cat Assistance Team (CAT): Our Community/Cat Assistance Team is helping more people than ever through phone calls, emails, and social media. They are ready to help you with anything “cat,” from behavior advice for a kitty that keeps interrupting your Zoom meetings to how to negotiate with your new landlord to allow your kitty to stay with you.
Kitten Fosters: With social distancing, furlough of staff, and decrease in funding, our kitten foster is expecting less than half of the kittens than in 2019, but the new program, Kitten Sitters can assist people in the community who find kittens. We are going to turn anyone who will listen into a kitten expert!
Vaccine & Microchip Clinics: Since the clinics really involve a lot of people-to-people contact, it is a challenge to do them, but we are looking into some ideas for doing them safely. The earliest we would start them up again is in June.
Hathaway Cat Resource Center: Open by appointment only for equipment loans, Kitten Sitter supplies, and feral colony food.
FieldHaven Marketplace: For now, the Marketplace is continuing with virtual sales and we will host another Safe Sidewalk Sale on Friday, May 22 from 10 AM – 2 PM. If you are wondering about donations here’s the scoop: We are accepting very limited donations at this time. We are running low on space, as we have more merchandise than we can sell virtually. That’s a good thing and we are grateful for that, but we just don’t have space! If you have items you’d like to donate, please send us an email at [email protected] with a description and images. We will let you know when we can accept it. Unfortunately, we can’t accept clothing at this time. We have no way to sell it and no room left for anymore! Here is a video that gives some guidelines on the types of donations we can accept.
Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR): Our colony caregivers are carefully caring for and monitoring their colonies. They know who is there and know who’s not fixed. As soon as the clinic opens, we’ll be ready to get them fixed!
We continue to use utmost caution to keep everyone safe. Each step towards resuming operations is taken only after carefully reviewing all the recommendations and guidelines.
To all our FieldHaven family of friends and supporters, we thank you so much for your support during this time that is challenging for everyone.
