12 Saves of Christmas – FieldHaven’s Heartwarming Save #3: Luna

Each day, we will share one of FieldHaven’s 12 most heartwarming cat saves of 2020. Each happy story was made possible through your generosity!

Luna cared for a motley crew of healthy kittens in the home of a FieldHaven foster caregiver. When the time was appropriate, FieldHaven found homes for everyone.

Alone on the streets of Lincoln, Luna was looking for a safe place to give birth to her kittens. She sought help from people she encountered and, at last, a kind family took her in – just in the nick of time too – as the very next day Luna gave birth to five kittens.

The family called FieldHaven for help, and we arranged a foster home for Luna and her litter. Her foster mom, Sallie, doted on her, and Luna was a great mom to her kittens. Luna even accepted an orphan kitten and raised her, too.

As the kittens grew, Sallie made sure they received lots of human attention and socialization. Kittens learn a lot in their first weeks of life, and a safe secure foster home is so important!

Finally, when the kittens were old enough, they were spayed and neutered and received needed vaccinations at just the right time. Luna was spayed also. Now the little family was ready for adoption – all made possible by your generous support that enabled us to provide care to Luna and her babies.

Soon after she was adopted, Luna and her new family moved across the country to North Carolina and somehow Luna got out and got lost. We are not sure how long she was on her own this time, but a kind person, named Vicky, came to her aid. Her rescuer got Luna scanned at a vet clinic and her microchip led back to FieldHaven.

We were able to reach out to her adoptive family and, in the end, it was decided that Luna would stay with her new mom, Vicky, who had fallen in love with her. They are getting ready to celebrate their first Christmas together. (That’s Luna in the photo on the far left gazing out the glass door in her new home.) “I’m sorry she had such a rough road getting here but she’s home now forever,” Vicky said.

Thanks to you and your donations, FieldHaven is here to help cats like Luna and her kittens.
