Thanks to You, Bones is Alive
In early August, a good Samaritan called FieldHaven Feline Center for help. She had found a tiny kitten who desperately needed medical attention. Without it, her outcome was not good. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Bones was quickly relinquished to our care.
**At the bottom of this post is her heartbreaking intake photo which shows how badly she needed us.
She was about two months old but looked more like two weeks old. She should have weighed around two pounds; she was barely over three ounces. Her body score was one out of nine—she was cold, emaciated, struggling with a severe upper respiratory infection, and barely breathing. Bones was literally just that – skin and bones—and on the brink of death.

Bones was immediately seen by our veterinarian who warmed her body temperature up, wrapped her in fluffy blankets, started her on a course of antibiotics, and then, inserted a feeding tube – an incredibly delicate process when a kitten is as small as Bones. We knew she needed nutrition to survive, and that the next few days would be critical.
Dallas, one of our managers, took her home, providing round-the-clock care. She is skilled in tube feeding and emergency medical treatment for even the smallest of kittens. It was touch and go for a few days, but finally, Bones began to show signs of life. She was taking a turn for the better!
Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday and for us, it’s all about kittens like Bones – those with no other resources or options. That’s why we need Giving Tuesday to be successful – so that we can continue saving lives, and caring for Bones.
It took a couple weeks of intensive care, but Bones was tough. She fought through it, and soon, she was ready for a new foster home where she could focus on just being a kitten. We continued to monitor her closely because we wanted to be sure her challenges didn’t have any long-term effects on her health. She was still small for her age and had a slight head tilt due to the severity of her illness, but she had a great appetite and zest for life. She leaned on fellow foster cats to learn how to play and build confidence, and before we knew it, she was ready to be spayed!
Now, her charming personality is shining. We know her life is no longer in immediate danger, and we can be proud of all we did for her. Soon, she’ll be ready for adoption, and we hope she’ll have a home of her own, just in time for the holidays.

P.P.S. Below we’ve placed a photo of Bones from when she arrived. It’s pretty heartbreaking and can be scary to look at so we didn’t put it at the top, but this helps you understand how sick Bones really was… and how much went into her care to save her. Thank you for helping us help Bones.
