12 Saves of Christmas – FieldHaven’s Heartwarming Save #2: Boozer
Each day, we will share one of FieldHaven’s 12 most heartwarming cat saves of 2020. Each happy story was made possible through your generosity!
Back in January, before COVID-19 when we could still go to bars, Jim was relaxing at a bar in Roseville. In walks this buff, orange tabby cat. The bartender started shooing him out the door, threatening to squirt him with water. “Damn cat won’t stay outta here!”
Jim, a veteran cat guy and FieldHaven volunteer asked about the cat, who seemed so desperate to hang out with the guys at the bar. The bartender said he’d been coming around for months and wouldn’t stay away. No one knew where he came from and no one had claimed him.
Jim scooped the hefty tabby up to bring him to FieldHaven to scan for a microchip and do a search for possible owners. After all, the big friendly guy could be someone’s lost pet.
A scan revealed no microchip so the FieldHaven team went to work getting the word out over social media. Meanwhile, Boozer, as he was dubbed, got a good meal and a cozy place to rest.
It wasn’t long before Shirley saw the post on Next Door and thought Boozer looked like their cat, Kitty, who had gone missing three years earlier. They had never given up hope of finding their beloved cat. Shirley and her husband pulled up a picture of Kitty and compared it to Boozer.
Sure enough, those distinctive nose spots were there!
When the couple went to meet Boozer, they gave him a pat in a specific way they always used to and he flopped down on his side – just as he did in the past! They looked at each other – THIS WAS KITTY!
The bar where he was found was just about a mile from his home, but it took FieldHaven and our volunteers to get him back with the people who loved him!
FieldHaven gave Boozer (aka Kitty) a microchip, so if he goes barhopping again, he can more quickly be reunited with his family.
Thanks to your generous support, FieldHaven is here for cats like Boozer, when they need us most!
