Overview

FieldHaven Feline Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Care Supervisor to join our shelter team in Lincoln, CA. This full-time position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of cats in the community and the lives of our shelter team and volunteers. The Animal Care Supervisor will oversee the shelter’s daily operations, manage a team of animal care assistants and volunteers, and ensure the highest animal care and welfare standards. The ideal candidate will have excellent animal handling skills, previous supervisory experience, and a passion for cats.

Key Responsibilites

  • Supervise and manage a team of animal care assistants and volunteers, providing ongoing training, guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee daily cat care, including feeding, grooming, and medical care as directed by veterinary staff.
  • Monitor the health, mental well-being, and behavior of all cats that enter our facility, ensuring timely reporting and action on any concerns.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary conditions in all shelter areas, ensuring compliance with animal sheltering health and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate the intake and assessment of new cats entering the shelter, including health evaluations and quarantine procedures.
  • Oversee the daily functioning of the foster home program.
  • Remain responsible for coordinating mobile outreach adoption events; weekend days may be required for community outreach events.
  • Ensure all mobile adoption centers are clean, sanitized, and welcoming to the public.
  • Work alongside the FieldHaven leadership team to help develop and implement standard operating procedures for animal care and shelter operations.
  • Ensures our team maintains a friendly and welcoming environment for all volunteers, staff, and visitors at our shelter facility. Leads by example, encouraging other team members to maintain a positive and respectful attitude.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director regarding ongoing staff appreciation events and initiatives.
  • Facilitate community outreach and educational programs to promote animal welfare and adoption as needed.
  • Has a natural drive to continue learning animal welfare and sheltering best practices while always being a student in ongoing research and collaboration with others regarding feline welfare and care.
  • Continue seeking out new community outreach events to further the organization’s outreach to help more cats in need.
  • Assist with veterinary appointments and treatments for cats in the shelter and foster home programs, ensuring accurate record-keeping and animal care and health documentation.
  • Support the planning and executing shelter events and activities, including adoption drives and fundraising events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the leadership team.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of previous supervisory experience managing teams.
  • Excellent animal handling skills, especially with cats.
  • A passion for cats and animal welfare.
  • Can stay calm in stressful situations and environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive, can-do attitude, who can lead by example for other staff members.
  • Previous experience working with different online databases and Excel.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Previous experience working in a veterinary hospital setting is a plus.
  • Experience in community outreach and education is a plus.

Additional Information

  • This position involves working in an environment exposed to animals and allergens.
  • This position requires lifting heavy objects, up to 50 pounds and sometimes standing on your feet for the entire day.
