12 Saves of 2024 #2: Hamburger (with a Side of Fries and a Malt)
It was just before Thanksgiving, and while we didn’t order a Hamburger, Side of Fries, and a Malt, they showed up anyway.
It was cold and rainy when a property manager of a local apartment complex heard a series of tiny cries. Following the sound, the manager found three kittens in a hollow tree trunk that was filling up with water!
Scooping up the freezing, soaking wet kittens, the manager placed a frantic call to Marysville Animal Care Services.
Officer Harper advised to gently dry them off with a warm towel and said she would be there as quickly as possible.
Time was of the essence.
Officer Kandra made it to the complex within a short time, and then brought them to our Marysville Cat Resource Center.
While still cold, they were at least crying and screaming, signs of being alert and active. They were about five weeks old but very small, so who knew when their last meal was. We had to carefully warm them before feeding them, so we got right to work.
As we cared for them, we also noticed they were covered in fleas, which, in their current state, could be life-threatening to them.
A couple of hours later, they were warm, clean, treated for fleas, fed, and tucked into a cozy space in a kennel.
One of the tiny tabbies was lounging in the paper food tray, also commonly used as french fry dish, with his brother on top of him.
It was at this point we finally named them. Hamburger was the biggest one, the white kitten with smudges of black. Side of Fries was the smaller one underneath him, aptly curled up in the food tray. Of course the sister also needed a themed name, so she became Malt.
And that is how just before Thanksgiving, while we didn’t order a Hamburger, Side of Fries, and a Malt, they showed up anyway.
While only a few weeks have passed, Hamburger, Side of Fries, and Malt are doing well in foster home. They are sweet, playful, and incredibly snuggly.
Thanks to your support, they survived.
Our Marysville Cat Resource Center is so vital to our community, and we are so grateful for our partnership with Marysville Animal Care Services because together, we are making a BIG impact.
YOU are the ones who enable us to work as a team. Your support = lives saved. It’s that simple.
P.S. We are so happy that Hamburger, Side of Fries, and Malt are experiencing thier first holiday season warm and comfortable in a foster home. It’s thanks to you that this is possible!
