12 Saves of 2024 #1: Brandon
This summer, Marysville Animal Care Services received a call about a tiny kitten who was found in the crawl space at an apartment complex. Right away, they jumped in to help, rescuing little Brandon and bringing him to FieldHaven Feline Center.
Unfortunately, he tested positive for ringworm, a fungus that causes hair loss and patchy areas of skin. It’s not life threatening, but it can be tedious because it can take anywhere from weeks to months to clear up!
Poor Brandon wasn’t cleared of ringworm until early November. We could finally get him ready for adoption!
Then, everything changed.
We noticed a sudden downturn in his health. He had a fever, became lethargic, and his social personality diminished. We brought it to the attention of our medical director, Dr. Yee, who did a blood test that same day.
Brandon was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis, otherwise known as FIP.
Just a few years ago this serious, life-threatening viral disease was considered a death sentence. Now, there is a cure. FIP is no longer a death sentence!
We quickly started Brandon on medication and within a matter of days he was doing much better. We were so grateful!
This week Brandon is due for his 30 day checkup. He’ll have another blood test to verify the treatment is working, note any other concerns, and document his progress. The good news? Brandon is already showing signs of a wonderful recovery!
His journey is far from over, but, so far, all signs point to a good recovery. Brandon is playful, snuggly, and social. He loves attention and is appreciative for the second chance.
Brandon’s holiday may look a bit different than we had hoped, but it is still going to be a happy one, and for that, we are grateful.
Happiest of PAWlidays,
