About Kathy Leonard

I am a retired Fire Marshal with over 30 years of service. I started my fire service career as a firefighter and moved up through the ranks. It was a very challenging career, but I always felt it was my calling to help others in need.

My first cat was Bart. He came with the house I was renting in college. At the time, I also had a Great Dane. Raliegh had to learn to accept Bart, but in time they became great friends. After college, I moved home and Bart came home to California with me. I have had quite a few cats since Bart and all were different, and all were rescues of some sort. Today I have 3 cats, including my newest, Pete. Pete is my miracle kitty that I adopted from FieldHaven. He is a special guy and I a feel so lucky to have him.

When I retired in 2019, I moved from the Bay Area to Granite Bay. I wanted to volunteer with a cat rescue organization. A web search and amazing testimonials and reviews led me to FieldHaven. I helped out at the shelter and then with the victims of the fires last year. I was so impressed with the dedication and professionalism from all of the volunteers, but especially Joy and Audra. When an opportunity came up to join the Board of Directors, I threw my hat in the ring.

I am excited to help continue the good work that FieldHaven provides to the community. We have much to do, but it is good work to help the people and the cats that need it the most.
