About Julie Harper
I was raised in San Luis Obispo, CA, and was lucky enough to live in the country, so our family had horses, dogs, cats, bunnies, and also sheep and a pig. I’ve been a lifelong lover of and advocate for animals. My focus for much of my working life was music and teaching music, and I discovered working in animal welfare and rescue when I returned to San Luis Obispo County after 27 years in the Boston/Southern New Hampshire area.
I responded to an ad to work for the “Homeless Animal Rescue Team,” which I thought sounded amazing! I got the job, and I was hooked—I became general manager of the organization, responsible for daily operations, and doing everything from litter boxes and ringworm cleaning to donor relations. I continued on to work at an expanding rescue in the San Joaquin Valley – Fresno/Clovis area – but it had to shut down in 2020 due to Covid. So I relocated and worked at Placer County Animal Services in Auburn for a bit before being having the good fortune of joining the Fieldhaven team in August of 2021, working in a variety of areas, including cat care. Fieldhaven is a fantastic organization that I’m so happy to be part of!
