Sponsor a Colony

FieldHaven is working to Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) nearly 100 cats in three different cat colonies within our communities. It’s quite the project and ultimately will help prevent hundreds of litters of unwanted kittens—but we need your help!

Will you sponsor a cat for TNR in one of these colonies? It’s just $65!

What Your Donations Cover

Volunteer trappers are ready to go. Our Hathaway Spay/Neuter Clinic is on standby. We just need funding! Your $65 sponsor covers:

  • Spay or neuter surgery
  • Vaccinations
  • Microchip
  • Parasite treatment
  • Other basic medical care as needed

We cannot do this without your help. Will you sponsor a cat for TNR today?

Mark M. Glickman is generously matching all spay/neuter sponsorships, meaning your $65 donation spays or neuters two cats instead of one!

Sponsor a Colony

Want to invest in an emerging colony? Sometimes we discover a new colony that we need to start fixing right away and don’t really have time to wait for fundraising. If you’d like to help us provide a cushion for jump-starting these colonies invest by donating here. $65 covers spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, parasite treatment, and other minor medical care. We’ll let you know who we’re using your support for.

How This Project Began

In 2022 FieldHaven received a grant from California for All Animals to fund a large spay/neuter effort across four northern counties. The grant would fund a project called T-A-M-I, an acronym coined by Shad Boone of Shasta Lake City Shelter, from September 2022 – August 2023.

    • Trap: The method of humanely securing cats for spay/neuter surgeries and/or sometimes other minor medical services
    • Alter: The medical care, including spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, a microchip, and/or sometimes other minor medical services
    • Manage: Ensuring the cats are safe and cared for after being altered and returned to their homes
    • Invest: The method of sustainability for the future of the program by encouraging communities to be part of the solution. Investing comes in many forms, such as:
      • Being a caregiver for community cats.
      • Advocating for the solution of spay/neuter.
      • Helping to bring cats to a spay/neuter clinic and returning them home.
      • Donating supplies such as food and/or funds to continue spaying/neutering new cats.

During the grant period we spayed or neutered 1,367 cats and kittens. Additionally, 173 cats and kittens were cared for through adoption programs, intake for medical care and community caregivers enrolling litters into the Kitten Sitter program.

The funding gave us an enormous jump start to spaying and neutering over 30 distinct colonies and communities of cats. Now we need to keep the momentum going to maintain the zero-population growth in those areas and continue in new areas—and bringing together people to continue with this solution is our next initiative.

Spaying and neutering in our neighborhoods is an example of a community-based solution. The definition is as follows:

Community-based solutions are initiatives that address local issues and needs by engaging and empowering the people who live and work in the community. They can have positive impacts on civic engagement, economic development, social justice, and environmental sustainability.

The initial California for All Animals funding helped FieldHaven create a catalyst for change in the target areas. A change from the decades-old non-solution of trap/kill or do-nothing approach to overpopulation of cats in our communities. A change from the exasperation of local rescuers who fight against the tide of kittens born each year to rescue and place kittens for adoptions. We cannot adopt our way out of the overpopulation of cats and kittens.

Spay and Neuter is the ONLY proven solution. Will you be part of the continuing catalyst for change in your community or neighborhood?

Invest in change.

Colonies

Barry Colony

Yuba City, CA • Started January 21, 2024

Located on a quiet street in Yuba City, the Barry Colony started with a couple of strays several years ago and now there are an estimated 30 cats at this residence. The elderly homeowner struggles to buy food for all of them on her very limited income. Her 10-year-old great granddaughter helps her care for the cats. There are no funds to fix them. We did a site assessment and we’re ready to begin Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) for the cats. We have a generous donor who is sponsoring ten cats by covering their cost of medical care, but we need your help to complete the colony.

Lincoln Garden Highway

Yuba City, CA January 7, 2024

The Lincoln Garden Colony is in Yuba City in the area of Garden Highway and Lincoln Road. The cats are tucked in a lot between numerous businesses and they have been there for awhile, unaltered and continuously breeding. FieldHaven estimates about 30 cats with more on their way, as many of the cats are female, some visibly pregnant. FieldHaven has volunteers for Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR), and to assist in their recovery and care. Our Hathaway Medical Clinic has space available for surgeries. All we are lacking it the funding to complete this project, helping to keep cats healthy and safe, and no longer contributing to the cat overpopulation. We did a site assessment and we’re ready to begin TNR for the cats. We have a generous donor who is sponsoring 10 cats by covering their cost of medical care, but we need your help to complete the colony.

Sycamore Ranch Colony

Yuba City, CA

This beautiful Yuba County park and campground is made even more special with the small colony of community cats that live there. They live in a couple of areas of the park and keep the unwanted rodent population controlled. They are so polite to the visitors by not interfering with family campouts. In fact, some people say they never see them. When it’s busy they retreat to their hiding places but they come out to play when the park is less busy.
