Neva’s Second Chance Thanks to You
Lifesaving takes a village, and sometimes we all must do a bit more for those with the fewest number of resources. With Big Day of Giving this Thursday, this is why we ask for your support—to help us grow our village.
Neva, an incredibly loving one-year-old cat, ended up at a nearby county shelter. He needed immediate care—his eye was badly swollen and inflamed, his jaw crooked, and his fur, matted and dirty. He appeared to be nearly 100% blind, so their veterinarian began antibiotics and steroids to reduce swelling and put out a call for help. They knew that Neva would not do well there and needed more specialized care.
When they contacted FieldHaven Feline Center, we knew we had to help. Quite simply, Neva deserved it.
That was about a month ago. Since then, Neva has blossomed. Our veterinary team agrees that he likely suffered head trauma with severe internal injuries to the eyes. Medication and daily care have helped them improve, and though he seems to see some movement, he’s definitely vision impaired. The good news? It doesn’t slow him down! He’s playful, adventurous, curious, affectionate, and always looking for a good time.
We bathed and groomed him, getting rid of that dirty coat and matted fur. His current haircut isn’t the best, but he doesn’t care—he knows fur grows back and he’s just grateful to feel good.
We can speculate about what happened, but we won’t because it doesn’t matter. What matters is that moving forward, Neva is set up for success, given all the medical care he needs to be 100%, and adopted into a loving home.
We mentioned our safety net is not typical. It means looking at every cat as an individual and every situation as unique. It means working together with others, thinking outside the box, and providing solutions. And yet, it’s not all up to us. We need community help and support. With Big Day of Giving in two days, not only are your donations doubled, but they will directly impact our community. You can be part of the team that is giving Neva a second chance!
We are so excited for Big Day of Giving this Thursday. Thanks to Mark M. Glickman and Zoe McCrea, all donations up to $20,000 will be matched! That’s twice the impact! So give right now or give on Thursday, but please, just give. Then, tell your friends. Because the more we raise, the more cats like Neva that we can help!
Neva’s future would not have been the same if he didn’t end up in our care, and thanks to you, that future is secured. Donate for Big Day of Giving to show Neva that you care.
P.S. Today, Neva is social and chatty. He loves toys and exploring. He asks for attention with his cute, chirpy meow. He still has some medical needs, so he’s not available for adoption, but he IS available as a foster to adopt until then!
