Robbie

By Julie L.

On July 31, 2022, Robbie developed a high fever just one day after receiving his 2nd kitten vaccine. By August 1, his temperature was 105.8 and was lethargic. We started fluids and antibiotics. He visited the vet and was given NSAIDs to lower his temperature. On the evening of August 2, he started limping and became unsteady. On the morning of August 3, he was completely paralyzed and had lost control of his bladder. We went to UC Davis Emergency Hospital where he underwent testing and his lab work showed FIP. I had never heard of FIP and was completely terrified, fearing we were going to lose him.

We went right out to FieldHaven and started treatment that evening. Everyone was so good at explaining the treatment to me. It took about five days to start to see some improvement but he started pushing himself with his left foot and scooting around. By day six, he was standing and taking a few steps before falling. After about ten days, he was able to walk and starting to run and play with his sister. Today, he is a playful kitten and loves to run and climb. If he didn’t have his cool FIP haircut, you would never believe he was paralyzed just 50 days ago.
