We are located on a stunning 10-acre horse ranch in beautiful Lincoln, California.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and team members during surgeries and medical procedures, ensuring the highest standard of care for all feline patients.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and the operating area, ensuring a sterile environment.
  • Handle and transport cats, including lifting and carrying cat traps and other equipment, with care and attention to safety.
  • Administer medications and monitor the recovery of cats post-surgery under the supervision of veterinary staff.
  • Administer medications and assist with treatments of shelter cats.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of treatments, procedures, and patient progress.
  • Provide excellent customer service, including educating cat owners on pre-and post-operative care.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members, contributing to a positive and productive work environment.
  • Assist in developing and implementing program improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the clinic.
  • Be involved in community outreach initiatives when needed, including attending community vaccine and microchip clinics.
  • Manage inventory and ensure the clinic has the necessary supplies and medications.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • This position will be exposed to, at times, stressful situations, including euthanasia, only when medically necessary.
  • Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques, animal care, and anesthesia techniques.
  • Knowledge of sterilization and surgical pack preparation procedures.
  • Ability to control and safely handle pharmaceuticals used in the care and handling of animals and disinfectants in the cleaning and disinfecting of animal habitats.
  • Must stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit regularly to perform duties.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical activity, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds alone with the help of fellow employees for short distances.
  • Must be able to deal with an often emotion-charged public and carry a fast-paced and changing workload, which at times can be stressful.
  • By nature of the industry, there may be occasional exposure to deceased, injured, sick, or fractious animals and exposure to parasites and infectious diseases.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the surgery room and other related areas to provide a safe, clean, and sterile environment.
  • Must be punctual and maintain regular, predictable attendance.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 1-5 years of previous experience as a veterinary assistant, surgical assistant, or Registered Veterinary Technician within a veterinary clinic or animal shelter. Prior experience in a high-volume spay/neuter clinic is strongly preferred.
  • All Registered Veterinary Technicians will need to hold a current California RVT license in good standing with the California Veterinary Medical Board.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for up to eight hours and lift heavy items such as cat traps.
  • Licensing: Ability to obtain a Controlled Substance Veterinary Assistant Permit within six months of hire.
  • Background Check: Successful completion of a background check is required.

Work Schedule

  • Working an average of 30-hour work weeks, 8-hour shifts per day.
  • Typical schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
  • Some weekend shifts may be requested for this position to assist at community vaccine & microchip clinics.

Compensation

The wage range is $19 – $26 per hour.
