Dionne is Now an FIP Survivor
Dionne arrived at FieldHaven Feline Center with quite the list of concerns, including the fact she was thin, unthrifty and her abdomen was bloated. Further tests revealed she had a bad upper respiratory infection, anemia, and possible stomatitis. We were able to save Dionne, but she’s the reason we need YOU for Giving Tuesday.
Every year, Giving Tuesday, a worldwide giving movement, helps nonprofits make an impact, and this year, more than ever, we need your help.
Dionne’s uphill battle is truly a miraculous story of a cat who was unwilling to give up and a team of people who were unwavering in finding the solution for her. She was extremely unhealthy, and several things stood out, but one kept coming up: Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). We followed our instinct and began treating Dionne. Within a week, she was a totally different cat. Treating FIP is not easy, inexpensive, or quick. It’s 84 days of daily injections, then 84 days of observation. Dionne stayed at FieldHaven the entire time. She had multiple staff members who cared for her and an abundance of TLC from volunteers. Everyone that met her was enamored by her incredibly sweet demeanor, despite the painful treatment she was enduring. As she approached the end of her treatment, a sweet couple fell in love with her, taking her home for the remainder of her observation period. She came back weekly, for tests to ensure she was continuing to do well, and each time we were blown away at her transformation and beauty. Just recently she was deemed cured of this life-threatening illness and officially adopted by the family who helped lead her to the finish line.
Will you show your support and be part of the team who saved Dionne? We cannot do this without you. You don’t even have to wait until Giving Tuesday; you can give right now and your gift will be put to work right away helping other cats battling FIP just like Dionne!
It’s moments like these that truly make what we do worth it. We fought for Dionne for over seven months. We kept going, even though we struggled with the rising costs of goods and services, a nationwide veterinary shortage, and the controversial battle of FIP treatment. But we cannot do it without you. Your gift for Giving Tuesday will help cats just like Dionne, and we cannot express our appreciation enough.

P.S. FIP was once considered uncurable, but over the last few years, a successful treatment has emerged. If you would like to know more about treating FIP, and the disease in general, check out our FIP Stars program.
