Piper was admitted to FieldHaven Feline Center weighing just under 4 lbs. Her symptoms aligned with Feline Infectious Peritonitis, or FIP. It’s a tragic illness that affects cats, oftentimes with no warning. Up until recently, it was 100% fatal. Now, there is a treatment, and though it’s not easy or inexpensive, it saves lives.
Piper began treatment within 24 hours, and within that same time, already started showing improvement. Slowly, her symptoms subsided. Sores on her tiny nose cleared up. Her appetite increased. She gained weight. Piper was a fighter, and thanks to the opportunities provided by FieldHaven Feline Center, Piper was getting a chance to live.
Treatment for FIP requires daily injections for nearly three months, sometimes more. Bloodwork is done monthly to monitor progress. It’s an emotional, challenging time, and our team works to make it as positive an experience as we can. Every cat gets an abundance of treats, snuggles, and TLC.
Piper just had her 30-day bloodwork and so far, we couldn’t have hoped for a better result. She’s improving! Her spirits are up, her coat is shiny, and her eyes brighter. Piper is a happy little girl, and we could not have done this without you.
