Community/Cat Assistance Team (CAT)
    Eclipse

We receive many requests to accept cats and kittens into FieldHaven from all types of situations; owner surrenders, rescued kitties, strays - you name it! Unfortunately, our space at the shelter and in foster homes is limited so we cannot take in every cat. However, we do make an effort to assist in every request!

Please follow the link below that best represents your cat issue. There you will find helpful information and a way to contact one of our CAT volunteers, who will help you with your situation.

Having a problem with your cat's behavior?

Behavior Hotline - We're Here to Help!

Whether you're having issues with a new arrival from FieldHaven or just need advice about an existing member of your feline family, FieldHaven is here to help. First, check out our resource library which has articles on many cat behavior issues -- if your new kitty isn't being accepted with open paws by your resident pets, if there are litterbox or spraying issues, on social behavior and much more.

If an article does not solve the problem, we have experienced volunteers who can assist you with all types of cat behavior issues, whatever the problem is - contact us.

Thousands of cats are surrendered or euthanized each year solely because of behavior problems. So often there was a simple solution, but the owners just didn't know where to go for help. So please, contact us. If we can't help you, we can refer you to resources that can.

Call 916-434-6022 to leave a message or E-mail us.

A CAT volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible. Please understand we are volunteer staffed so it may take several days for a response, but we will contact you.

Have a cat you'd like to bring to FieldHaven?

If you own a cat that you would like to re-home you can have access to our resources and volunteers' expertise in finding homes for cats and kittens. You can place you cat on our Courtesy/Waiting List, list the cat on our website and even bring your kitty to our outreach adoption events to meet potential adopters. Our resource library has an excellent reference for how to place your cat - How to Find Homes for Pets offers you some tips and helpful advice. Our volunteers are also available for questions and counseling.

  Fieldhaven
was able to
offer me incremental assistance (listing, showings, and finally taking over care) when I couldn't get any of the other shelters to work with me (except the ones who wouldn't guarantee he wouldn't be euthanized).

Gina Spadafori, Pet Columnist for the Sacramento Bee, wrote an excellent article on placing adult cats -- Finding a Home for Adult Cats is Worth the Work. You'll also find many more helpful animal-related information at Gina's website PetConnection (www.petconnection.com).

We will list your cat on our website with you as the contact person for anyone interested in adopting. In order to accept your cat on the Waiting List they must be spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines and have been tested for FeLV. Your cat will also be listed on the national website www.petfinder.com.

As space becomes available at FieldHaven we will accept cats on the Waiting List into the shelter. For owner-surrenders there is a surrender fee for cats that are relinquished to FieldHaven. There is a surrender donation of $125 and up, depending on your cat's age, health, etc. The donation for listing your cat on our website is $25 if you are not a member of FieldHaven.

To put a Courtesy Posting on our website and place your cat on our Waiting List, please complete the following:

  1. Read the Cat Surrender Policy.
  2. Complete the Courtesy Listing/Surrender Application Survey.
(The completed form will be automatically emailed to our CAT volunteers.)
  3. Fax (or have your vet fax) your cat's medical history to 916-644-6415.
  4. E-mail pictures of your cat to surrender-at-fieldhaven.com (replce the -at- with @).
  5. Remit your listing fee of $25 to our PayPal account link below. (This fee is waived for FieldHaven members).

Found a litter of abandoned kittens or a homeless stray?

If you have rescued a cat or found a stray please E-mail one of our CAT volunteers or call 916-434-6022 and provide us with as much information as possible. The more information you provide will allow us to address your situation as quickly as possible. The following information is helpful:

  • Where are you/the cat located?
  • Describe how you encountered the cat(s)
  • Describe the cat(s) to the best of your knowledge (age, sex, condition of the cat(s), tame vs. feral, etc.)
  • Are the cats in a safe place?
  • Would you or someone you know be willing to foster the cat(s)?

Remember, we can't take in every cat we are requested to but we can help you address the situation to the best of our ability. If you are located outside the Lincoln area we will try to hook you up with a rescue in your area.

Are cats on the wilder side stalking your backyard?
